Kisanserv sources its fruits and vegetables directly from a network of 11,000 farmers. This direct farm-to-store approach ensures that the produce is freshly harvested and of high quality, with minimal handling, which helps maintain its freshness and extends its shelf life. Unlike traditional Sabjiwalas who typically source from local Mandis, Kisanserv's direct sourcing eliminates intermediaries, ensuring better quality produce at lower prices.

Yes, farmers generally receive better prices when selling their produce to Kisanserv compared to selling through traders in wholesale markets. Here's why:
1. Direct Sourcing: Kisanserv eliminates intermediaries by sourcing directly from farmers, which means farmers can capture a larger share of the final selling price. In contrast, when farmers sell through wholesale markets, their produce often passes through several middlemen, each taking a cut, which reduces the amount farmers ultimately receive.
2. Fair Pricing: Kisanserv is likely to offer fairer and more consistent prices to farmers, as the company benefits from a more streamlined supply chain and reduced handling costs. This allows them to pay farmers more while still offering competitive prices to consumers.
3. Quality-Based Pricing: By maintaining a focus on high-quality produce, Kisanserv offer premium prices for better-quality fruits and vegetables, encouraging farmers to invest in quality improvement.

Recycled plastic is used for packaging by Kisanserv. Customers can deposit the plastics at the store for recycling.

Splashing water on fruits and vegetables is a common practice in many markets to keep them looking fresh and appealing. However, this practice has some downsides:
Pros:
1. Appearance: Splashing water can make produce look fresher and more vibrant, which might attract customers.
2. Short-term Hydration: It can help maintain moisture in the produce, which may prevent wilting for a short period.
Cons:
1. Contamination Risk: Water can spread contaminants, including bacteria, viruses, and dirt, especially if the water is not clean. This increases the risk of foodborne illnesses.
2. Spoilage: Excess moisture can accelerate the growth of mold and bacteria, leading to faster spoilage.
3. Weight Increase: Produce that has been splashed with water may weigh more due to the added moisture, leading to higher costs for consumers without any real benefit.
4. False Freshness: The practice can sometimes give a false impression of freshness, as the produce may appear fresher than it actually is.
Kisanserv’s Approach:
Kisanserv avoids splashing water on fruits and vegetables in its stores. Instead, the company focuses on maintaining the natural freshness of its produce through proper sourcing, quality checks, and packaging. This approach minimizes contamination risks and ensures that the produce remains safe and fresh for longer periods.
